UnderWater World offers free entry for all teachers

UnderWater World is pleased to announce the continuation of the Teacher Pass Program. This program offers free entry to the aquarium for all classroom teachers on Guam.

The program has been offered since UnderWater World opened in 1999. Teachers can apply for this program at any time throughout the year. Teacher Passes expire every year on August 1, and can be renewed at the time of the teacher’s next visit to UnderWater World.

“We have offered this program for almost ten years because we see teachers as a valuable resource in our community,” said UnderWater World General Manager Jeff Schindler. “We want to give educators as many opportunities to learn about our marine environment and the animals we have at UnderWater World. Another aspect of opening our doors to educators is to help them come up with new ideas to use in the classroom.”

Schindler added, “This program is also offered as a small way of saying ‘Thank you,’ to those men and women who dedicate their time to teaching our children.”

Teachers who would like to apply for the program must bring documents identifying them as a certified teacher to the UnderWater World Box Office in Tumon. Acceptable documentation includes a certification award with a seal, a personnel action with a Guam identification card or an unexpired, school-issued identification card specifically stating the individual is a classroom teacher.

Please note – UWW considers teachers to be any person teaching Kindergarten through College in a classroom setting. This includes GATE teachers, SPED teachers, ESL/LOTE teachers and librarians. School administrators, program coordinators, school aides, home-school parents, day care providers, one-to-one aides and other school employees do not qualify for this program. For more information about how to apply for this program call 649-9191 extension 120.

During the past decade, UnderWater World has offered numerous educational programs including field trips, free outreach presentations and guided tours. UnderWater World features the world’s longest tunnel-aquarium. The entire aquarium experience is more than 600 feet long and home to more than 2,000 animals. The largest tank has 34 sharks, four stingrays and one 500-pound giant grouper.

For more information about the Teacher Pass Program or to arrange an interview please contact Tammy Jo Anderson at 649-9191 extension 120, or at 483-9191.
